Character design is the art of creating characters for a narrative, including the process of conveying information about them. It may be employed in dramatic works of art or everyday conversation. Characters may be presented by means of description, through their actions, speech, or thoughts.1
In the realm of video games and anime the character designer is often an artist who 'brings characters to life' after going through the proposed story (or existing story if adapting) and fleshing out the visual appearance of the character. Sometimes the character designer creates the characters first before the story is written, and changes to the character design can bring about changes to the story during development. The artist often designs a number of different designs for each character they are responsible for and these can completely change after numerous consultations with the lead game designer, game director or writer.
