Nintendo 3DS is a handheld game console from Nintendo which can produce 3D effects. Unveiled at E3 2010, it is the successor to Nintendo DS and is backward compatible with all DS and DSi games.

Nintendo has released updated versions of every single handheld it has ever produced: Game Boy got both a Pocket update and a Light version, Game Boy Advance was retrofitted into a folding SP and later scaled down to Micro size, and Nintendo DS got a sleeker, slimmer Lite followed by an i and an XL. Nintendo will release GBA games for 3DS Ambassadors in Japan this Friday. The same games are expected1 to follow overseas on the same day, but Nintendo hasn't yet confirmed this. Indie platformer VVVVVV is coming to Nintendo 3DS eShop courtesy of Cave Story publisher Nicalis. According to the publisher blog, VVVVVV on 3DS "features the same amazingly retro gameplay, aesthetic and chiptune music (by Swedish musician, Magnus Pålsson), but now in 3D and on the go with your 3DS". VVVVVV 3D will utilize the dual screen functionality with a real-time map and will also include new levels and content in addition to the original six levels and 20 trinkets. "I'm VVVVVVery excited about it!", said creator Terry Cavanagh. "This is the first time anything I've made has been on a console." VVVVVV 3D is expected to be released before the year's end.
