Link

Link (リンク) is the protagonist of Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda series. Link has been featured in other video games from Nintendo, including its merchandising, comic books, and an animated television program. Link was awarded with a star on the Walk of Game in 2005, alongside Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog.

Link is commonly depicted as a child or teenager of the elf-like Hylian race, originating in the fictional land of Hyrule. Link often travels through Hyrule, defeating creatures, evil forces and the series' primary antagonist, Ganon, while attempting to save Princess Zelda and her kingdom. To defeat him, Link usually requires the mystic Master Sword and Light Arrows, or a similar legendary weapon, obtained after many trials and battles gathering magical objects or using other items such as musical instruments and weaponry. Several different Incarnations of Link have been introduced throughout The Legend of Zelda series.

Tropes vs Women: Damsel in Distress

Tropes vs. Women, a video series that looks at recurring stereotypes of female characters in video games, has released its first video in the series after being funded on Kickstarter last summer (the project received $158,922 of its requested $6,000 goal). As a trope the Damsel in Distress is a plot device in which a female character is placed in a perilous situation from which she cannot escape on her own and must then be rescued by a male character, usually providing a core incentive or motivation for the protagonist’s quest.

Official Zelda Series Timeline Released

Nintendo released a book to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Zelda series titled 'Hyrule Historia'. The book contains artwork, designs, and information. It also contains the hotly debated timeline of the series - except this time it's 100% official. In the early 2000s Nintendo of America released this timeline - complete with a warning that this was only their interpretation and the actual timeline remains open to debate. Translator Dan Owsen wanted to upload a draft but Nintendo Japan requested them to cancel the plan - as despite having an official plan in Japan they want to keep the speculation and theories running for the fandom.

The book is currently available in Japanese only however a fan translation has begun. The above image is a translated version of the official timeline provided in the book.
