Sega 32X

An add-on for Sega Genesis

Sega 32X

The Sega 32X, codenamed Project Mars, is an add-on for the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive console. Its aim was to increase the lifespan of the aging Genesis system, which was facing increasingly stiff competition from Nintendo's Super NES. While the 32X did increase the capabilities of the Genesis console, reluctance to adapt due to the previous failure of the Sega Mega-CD (a previous Genesis add-on) and the upcoming Sega Saturn system led to low sales and a short lifespan.
