Speaking to Edge Magazine today, Mario series creator Shigeru Miyamoto gave a few details on the upcoming Super Mario 3DS, including the release, which he claimed will be this year.
"It’s a combination of Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario on N64," said Miyamoto. "It won't convey the message if I talk to you today, but if you play it at E3 that will give you more understanding of what I'm talking about... For example, the floors floating in space: in 2D it's difficult to judge the distance, but in 3D it's really easy."
Added Miyamoto, "The tail... on the logo – it's what you think it is. You probably know what's going to happen using that character."

ReviewArguably the best Mario game in a decade, Super Mario Galaxy was followed up with an easy, lame, boring, if polished sequel in Super Mario Galaxy 2.
It's been noted that this sequel's existence is owed to the large quantity of leftovers from the original, leaving a bunch of galaxies on the cutting room floor. Super Mario Galaxy 2 feels like these throwaway levels were picked up, dusted off, polished off, and packed away.
The Mario series is ripe for comic ideas due to all the strangeness that occurs on a regular basis. One such example is the fact that characters who are enemies in one game might very well end up saving Mario’s bacon in another (such as in the Paper Mario series). Inevitably, worlds are going to collide.[Brawl in the Family]
