The beginning of the Metroidvania phase in the development of the Castlevania series, Symphony of the Night is commonly lauded as its greatest game, and is frequently lumped in the category of "Greatest Game of All Time". Fusing the series' traditional side-scrolling action with new themes of character development and exploration, Symphony of the Night tells the story of Alucard, son of Dracula, as he attempts to once and for all uncover the secrets of Castlevania.
Trivia
- It's no secret that some PlayStation games had the music for the game stored as Red Book Audio on the disc, playable in any CD player by skipping the first track. Symphony of the Night, however, featured a very unique 'track 02' in that it had Alucard voice a warning to the player that this was a PlayStation black disc, and should not be played in a CD player, followed by a sweet remix of "Dracula's Castle" which wasn't in the game (or on the OST).
