Commander Keen Episode V: The Armageddon Machine

A Platform game for MS-DOS by Id Software and re-released on PC via Steam in the Commander Keen and Goodbye, Galaxy! series

Having saved the council members in Commander Keen Episode IV: Secret of the Oracle the Oracle provides eight-year-old Billy Blaze (aka Commander Keen) with information on the Shikadi's space station: The Omegamatic (aka the Armageddon Machine). Keen must venture aboard The Omegamatic to shut it down before certain doom is unleashed upon the universe.

Trivia

  • This game was part of the Goodbye, Galaxy! series. This game was a seuqel to Commander Keen Episode IV: Secret of the Oracle.
  • There are several jokes in the game that relate back to Douglas Adams' Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. According to the book, a nice hot cup of tea is said to be a Brownian Motion inducer. One level is called the "Brownian Motion Inducer". When you get to the machine at the end of the level, you can see a cup of tea being stirred inside.[1]
  • Only found in some versions of the game is a representation of a swastika with pipes in level 4. This was deleted from all subsequent versions of the game.[1]
  • If the secret level is completed (by breaking a fuse in Korath III) a slightly alternative ending is shown. When the Shikadi attempt to escape their ship is unable to start due to the broken fuse and they are arrested by the Korath III police for double parking.
  • The ending of the game asks players to look forward to Christmas of 1992 when the next trilogy of the Commander Keen series was to be released. Ultimately aside from Commander Keen 6: Aliens Ate My Baby Sitter! no other canon games were released. Id Software went on to make Wolfenstein 3D and Doom.
