Square's first foray into the PlayStation 2 platform was not an RPG, the genre the developer is best known for. Instead, it was a racing game that wasn't very good.
Driving Emtion Type-S was developed by a little-known Square subsidiary called Escape, a team that previously worked with Dream Factory on Ehrgeiz, Tobal No. 1 and Tobal 2.1
