When a meteor falls from the sky and shatters the great crystal, lacing the land with its shards and smothering the countryside in a blanket of poisonous miasma, people are forced to build towns around the crystals to protect themselves from the abounding monsters and send out travellers to collect drops of myrrh and recharge the crystal's protective energies. But this endless cycle will have to end sometime... what is the origin of the meteor? And why are the villagers perpetually losing their dearest memories?

Square Enix Nintendo DS line-up revealed

According to the Nintendo Developer Fact Sheet, Square Enix has several games in development for the Nintendo DS, which was unveiled earlier today. The document mentions two games as parts of already existing series: a new Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles game, and a new Dragon Quest Monsters title. A third game will be on display during E3: Egg Monster Heroes, which appears to be part of the Hanjuku Hero series of games. The fact sheet also has a short description of the title: "In the first segment, players control a general and his troops. Flip them from behind to make them charge the opponents. Next, players enter into the ?Egg Monster Battle,? where players can touch their monsters? bodies to choose an attack method while aiming at opposing monsters? weak parks."1

Nintendo announced the release dates for several of its upcoming games today, and Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles was listed with February 9th, indicating that it had been pushed back from its previous November 11 due date. As it turns out, Europe will now be getting the game before North America, as its December release date over there (here) still holds true. Squenix's return to Nintendo will be out on August 29th in Japan, so you'll just have to wait, or invite your 3 Japanese chums over to play your leet imported copy.1

Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles received 7 / 8 / 9 / 9 (33/40) from japanese Gamecube specialist mag Dengeki GC, indicating that it should be pretty good as we expected, but not exactly perfect (as expected). At least it's better than Joshua Yadron thought it would be, that blasted naysayer. Nintendo mentioned that the first shipment of the title in Japan would consist of 100.000 units, which seems on the low side - so perhaps they don't expect the game to do really that well, or is the Gamecube market really that tiny?1
