For decades, Samus Aran has been known as one of the first female protagonists in video games, and one of the most enigmatic. Having traded her haunted past for the solitary life of a bounty hunter, Samus finally tells her own tale in this personal story of her failings, her flaws and ultimately her motivation.

Development

In the post-Metroid Prime world, Metroid is an action game developed not by Retro Studios, but by Team Ninja.

To be more specific, Other M is being developed by Project M, a collaborative development group assembled in by Nintendo solely for the development of Other M. The development group consists of Team Ninja, Nintendo SPD, and D-Rockets. Metroid alum Yoshio Sakamoto, who is the project manager/producer, describes the origins of the team:

I've been working on Metroid games for quite awhile, but in 2006, having seen the Wii, its capabilities and the features available through it, I wanted to challenge myself to see what I could produce for that particular system and it was at that point that I started mulling other concepts. My team and myself have had experience working on Metroid game, but it's all been in the handheld realm and it's all been in 2D, so we lacked both the experience and the manpower to create a 3D Metroid experience. It was at that time that I realized I needed to find a partner help me realize my concept.

News & Blogs

"While under the player's control, she is exactly the Samus of old, fearlessly dusting off dozens of enemies at once, all without losing her cool. The moment a cutscene begins to roll, however, she is transformed into someone completely new and unrecognizable. Someone who is insecure about what a former employer thinks of her, gets hurt when called an outsider, has serious daddy issues, and even, at times, chokes in the face of fear. The duality of her character within Other M is confusing in and of itself, and only lends to the feeling that the Samus of the cinema scenes simply doesn't belong..."

The future of gaming and the sleeping giants that'll push this industry forward

BlogIt's been a while since my last sblog and I am truly sorry for that but there have been certain activities in my life that have prevented my will to preserve this wonderful little site of ours. Anyways, on with the article!

Today, I'm going to propose and hypothesize a topic that I think calls for a level of analysis regarding our beloved hobby: the future of the game industry regarding creative integrity and staple achievements approved by the industry's body as a whole. Read on

Metroid: Other M to have two hour movie to sum up story

Instead of asking players to get through the game twice, Metroid co-creator Yoshio Sakamoto has explained that Metroid: Other M will contain a two hour movie comprising of cutscenes from the game and pre-recorded footage. Divided up into chapters the creative team hopes this will allow players to discover new concepts or story points they may have missed on the first playthrough. Read on
