SSX (Snowboard Supercross) is snowboarding with a twist, literally: the object is to perform tricks, flips, and grinds, usually while flying at mach-speeds or while suspended in mid air as you plummet off the powdery slope of a thousand-foot cliff. Needless to say, SSX requires mad skillz.
A product of out-of-the-box sports developer EA Canada, SSX was the surprise hit of a dismal PlayStation 2 launch lineup, a situation which only added extra sheen to its already ample luster. It has since spawned several sequels as well as an extension of the trick-stunt take into other sports genres (see NBA Street and FIFA Street).
