Henry Townshend finds himself locked in his apartment in South Ashfield Heights - in Room 302. Locked in for five days and unable to find a way to communicate with the outside world he finds himself having nightmares. Subsequently, with no explanation, he finds a hole in his bathroom which he is able to enter - and is drawn into what appears to be an abandoned subway station...is he dreaming or not?
Silent Hill 4: The Room was the last game in the Silent Hill series fully developed by Konami, and rather than have the protagonist be free to roam areas, the player is initially limited to the apartment. Later the player is able to explore other, more expansive areas via the large holes that appear at without cause in the apartment. This creates a different type of fear - mostly around claustrophobia. The game forces the player to use first-person perspective in the apartment, with the traditional third-person style used outside in the various areas.
