Once upon a time, there was a peaceful world called Sarasaland ruled by the benevolent Princess Daisy. In this world there were four kingdoms named Birabuto, Muda, Easton, and Chai. One day, the skies of Sarasaland suddenly opened and the mysterious spaceman Tatanga emerged to conquer Sarasaland. Tatanga hypnotized the people of all the kingdoms so that he could control them in any way he liked. In this way he took over Sarasaland. Now, he wants to marry Princess Daisy and make her his queen. Mario came to know of these events, and he has started on a journey to the Chai Kingdom where Princess Daisy is held captive, in order to restore peace to Sarasaland. Can Mario defeat Tatanga, release people from his interstellar hypnosis, and rescue Princess Daisy? It's all up to you and Mario's skill. Go for it Mario!
A platformer masterfully released with the handheld Game Boy in 1989, Super Mario Land was the first Mario series title not developed by Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto and his development team at Nintendo EAD. Instead, duties were taken up by Game Boy and Metroid creator Gunpei Yokoi and Nintendo R&D1. The result was a fresh take on the popular platform series wherein Mario travels to far off lands that might seem out-of-place at first glance; Indeed, the four worlds of Sarasaland are based on earthbound locations like Egypt, China, and Easter Island rather than the warped locales of the Mushroom Kingdom.
