Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner

A High Speed Robot Action game for PlayStation 2 by Konami in the Zone of the Enders series

Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner box art

In the 22nd century- mankind is freed from gravity. The human race expands into space for new land. Terraformed Mars is now a colony of Earth, and the human race covets Jupiter as well. While new resources and new lands bring light to their future, they also bring along some new trouble. People living in space under Earth's oppression are called "The Enders" -- "people living in outskirt colonies". There seems to be a major gap between Earth-born and Space-born people. They turn hostile at each other as the controllers and the controlled.

Special Edition

The "Special Edition" of The 2nd Runner was released in both Europe and Japan (as ANUBIS: Zone of the Enders Special Edition) after the US release of the regular edition of ZOE2.

This version of the game includes several minor game improvements and a few extras such as the "Beyond the Bounds" music video, expanded EXTRA MISSIONS, and new FMV sequences in the main story mode.

There has been no word on a release in North America, and there probably will not be, so ZOE fans in those territories wanting to play the Special Edition will want to consider importing.1

Unlockable Bonus

There is an unlockable bonus mode within the Extra Missions in The 2nd Runner called ZORADIUS (a spin-off of Konami's Gradius side-scrolling space shooter series). ZORADIUS is essentially a playable Gradius level, except in a full 3D environment.2

The Darkness II Proves Horrific Violence in Games is OK in Australia if Contextual

BlogThe Darkness II has been rated MA15+ (legally restricted for sale/hire to people over the age of 15) twice by the Classification Board of Australia, after voluntary re-submission to include a newer version containing a sex scene. Coming with the advice of "strong horror violence, blood and gore, sex scenes and coarse language", the game was not refused classification despite very strong violence. Read on

Metal Gear Solid HD Not Coming to Europe Until 2012, 'Transfarring' to be Japan Only

BlogKonami has announced that the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection will be available in the United States on November 8. Great if you live there. If you're in Europe - too bad. You have to wait until sometime next year, in 2012. Do we really still live in an era that requires months of extra waiting time for PAL releases because companies were too slack to get their European language localisation sorted earlier? Really? I call bullshit frankly, and I wish companies would move forward and localise things on time. It's not like Konami Europe didn't know the title was coming - what's the deal here? Final Fantasy XIII had no problem with this, neither did Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. Even God of War III was only out a couple of days later in Europe than its United States release. PlayStation Vita Unveiled, Has Bad Name

BlogSony have officially unveiled the PlayStation Vita (previously known as the NGP). SCE's president Kazuo Hirai officially announced the device at E3 2011. Apparently vita means "life" in Latin. I personally associate 'vita' with either Vitalin from Commander Keen Episode V: The Armageddon Machine or Arnott's wholegrain crackers. The device will retail for US$249 or US$299 for the Wi-Fi and 3G models respectively. The device is currently slated for a late 2011 release.

Of course, the most exciting thing about the device is the potential for Zone of the Enders and Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner to be released on the device in HD glory. Read on

Konami drops HD bombshell

Konami has announced at a pre-E3 presentation that there will be HD re-releases of the Metal Gear Solid series (with Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker included), Zone of the Enders series (with both Zone of the Enders and Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner included) and Silent Hill series (with Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 3 included).

Konami have noted they will be using the special editions of titles (such as Subsistence for Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and the special edition of Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner for these compilations. The releases will not be emulated, rather full-blown PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 software. Read on
