Alexey Pajitnov is a computer engineer from Russia now living in the United States. His fame is almost wholly the result of being jolly and bearded, not unlike Santa Claus, and being the original creator of Tetris while working for the Computing Centre of the Soviet Academy of Sciences, a Soviet government-funded R&D center.
Tetris is arguably the most popular and influential puzzle game of all time, having topped many top 100 lists (IGN's, for example) and sold upwards of 200 million copies on almost every conceivable electronic device with gaming functionality, and beyond.
