David Hayter began his acting career with an appearance in the sitcom Major Dad and then went on to voice Captain America in the 1994 Spider Man animated series. He also voiced Arsène Lupin III in the English dub of the anime The Castle of Cagliostro and also Tamahome from Fushigi Yugi.
In 1994 he played Sean Barker (this name has been used as an alias in some early Metal Gear Solid material crediting his name) in the film Guyver: Dark Hero based on the manga and anime of the same name. The film was rated R which was directed by one of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers episode directors and "often plays like an R-rated MMPR installment [of the series]."1.
1998 was Hayter's big break; Metal Gear Solid came out with him lending his voice to the lead role of Solid Snake. He continued voicing the character in Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, and Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and went on to voice Naked Snake in Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops.
He also provided voices for the game Eternal Darkness, the anime Street Fighter II V
In 2000 Hayter wrote the screenplay for the Hollywood blockbuster X-men and went on to co-write the screenplay of the sequel, X-2. He later wrote a screenplay for the film adaption of Watchman, to which the original author Alan Moore thought "was as close as I could imagine anyone getting to Watchmen."2 Unfortunately, Hayter left the project due to creative differences, though screenwriter Alex Tse drew from his favorite elements of Hayter's script and re-wrote the screenplay.
In late 2009 he began talks with Warner Bros to write and direct a film based on the game Lost Planet: Extreme Condition and has also founded Dark Hero Studios, a company that will specialize in producing horror and fantasy films, comics and video games. He is set to begin directing his first film, Slaughter's Road in Summer 2010.
