Born in 1969, Hitoshi Sakimoto began volunteering to create video game music in 1987 and soon began working as a freelance composer in 1989. Seven years later, Sakimoto joined Square Co., Ltd.. and continued to compose until 2000, when, after completing his work on the highly-acclaimed Vagrant Story, he became a freelance composer. He went on to establish Basiscape, an independent provider of audio and music for video games and other media.
As the founder of Basiscape Co., Ltd, Sakimoto has since been penning regularly for a variety of games as well as some commissions for various independent companies. His compositions include Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter, Final Fantasy Tactics, and Final Fantasy XII, among others.
