A Music Composer for Basiscape and (formerly) Square
Born in 1969, Hitoshi Sakimoto began volunteering to create video game music in 1987 and soon began working as a freelance composer in 1989. Seven years later, Sakimoto joined Square Co., Ltd.. and continued to compose until 2000, when, after completing his work on the highly-acclaimed Vagrant Story, he became a freelance composer. He went on to establish Basiscape, an independent provider of audio and music for video games and other media.
As the founder of Basiscape Co., Ltd, Sakimoto has since been penning regularly for a variety of games as well as some commissions for various independent companies. His compositions include Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter, Final Fantasy Tactics, and Final Fantasy XII, among others.
Level-5 has filed trademarks for Yasumi Matsuno's Crimson Shroud and Goichi Suda's Liberation Maiden - both titles from their Nintendo 3DS compilation title Guild011. Crimson Shroud is Matsuno's first directed title since falling ill due to stress while helming Final Fantasy XII. Read on
After a lengthy hiatus, the Tactics Ogre series is returning with a sequel entitled Tactics Ogre: Wheel of Fate. It will be a remake of the original Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together from the Super NES period with the return of series architect Yasumi Matsuno along with his other peers, Hiroshi Minagawa, Akihiko Yoshida, Tsubasa Masao, Hitoshi Sakimoto, and Masaharu Iwata. This particular installment will feature a revision of the original game's story, along with some new characters and scenarios being written by Matsuno himself. Minagawa will take directorial role while Yoshida and Masao are designing the characters and Sakimoto and Iwata are doing the music. Read on

The Eminence Group will be presenting a concert series entitled "Passion" featuring orchestral arrangements of game music from popular Square Enix titles including Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Final Fantasy XII and Vagrant Story. Special guests Hitoshi Sakimoto and Yasunori Mitsuda are scheduled to attend. Melbourne's Merlyn Theatre will host December 9th, Sydney's Verbrugghen Hall show is scheduled for December 16th, and Singapore's Victoria Concert Hall will round out the tour on December 23rd. Yasunori Mitsuda and Hitoshi Sakimoto, two of gaming music's most celebrated composers, have collaborated on the score for Capcom's upcoming RPG Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter, to be released November 14 in Japan. Also, Capcom took a page out of Square's marketing playbook by announcing that Chihiro Onitsuka, a famous Japanese pop artist, will perform the game's theme song.
