Born in Kyoto, Japan in 1950, Makoto Kano began working in the 1970s for Nintendo, creating the character Mr. Game & Watch as well being the graphic designer for 28 Game and Watch titles. He also did some industrial design for the Nintendo Beam Gun, the NES accessory R.O.B. and some arcade cabinets. He wrote the scenario and concept design for Metroid, and went on to work as a graphic designer on Metroid II: Return of Samus as well as producing Super Metroid and a number of other Super NES titles in the early 1990s before winding down to semi-retirement. He currently serves as an advisor for Nintendo's business promotion department.
