Yoshiharu Gotanda began programming for the Super Famicom at 17 years of age. Not long after, he wrote and programmed Tales of Phantasia in 1995, financed by Namco. formed tri-Ace in March 1995 after leaving Wolf Team disgruntled about the handling of Tales of Phantasia by Namco. He has since worked on the Star Ocean series and Valkyrie Profile series.
For years Yoshiharu Gotanda headed the hobby musician group @MIDI, which included the participation of Motoi Sakuraba and Michiko Naruke and released 12 albums.
