Wii II Wishlist -- What's on yours?

Blog

The successor to Wii is reportedly coming real soon, and, like a bell to Pavlov's Dog, the fanboys are drooling.

I have to admit that I'm salivating (at least a bit) at the prospect of real HD, the complete abrogation of the friend code system, and whatever neat new gizmo/thingamajig/widget/gimmick Nintendo might have up its sleeve.

What are you hoping for, expecting, or demanding out of Wii II?

I am just hoping that Nintendo will appeal more to the hardcore gamers rather than just the causal ones with the Wii II, than they did with the Wii. I realize than Nintendo sees this as a way to make even more money so I doubt they will, but I know I'm not the only one that feels that Nintendo has continously alienate more and more of their hardcore fans. Hopefully, the idea that more third-party companies will be working with them might fix this a little.

Also, while I'm sure it will be able to play regular Wii games, I hope it also still be compatible with Gamecube games, as I've been playing more of those lately due to the lack of interesting new Wii games.

... the lack of interesting new Wii games.

I'm hearing this more and more frequently. Am I the only one that has a backlog of Wii games that will keep me occupied for months and months? Have you not yet exhausted all the great titles already available?

@Matt Well I only got about 10 or so Wii games at the moment, most having little or no re-play valve. I did get Monster Hunter Tri for the holidays, but I've barely touch it. I plan to get around to it eventually, I just don't have enough time to dedicate to game of that size right now. Also, been think of trying Wario Land: Shake It based on what you guys have been saying about it. Do you have any other suggestions?

@Son_Gara Wario Land: Shake It! is awesome!!! If you like old-school-style platformers, it is very much for you.

Here's what I have & recommend. It's a small list, but they're all good IMO.

Also been hearing good things about Metroid: Other M here and there...

@Matt Hey thanks for list! I've already played through DKCR, both Galaxy games, and Other M; all fun games, but just not enough extra content for me to re-play them for a while.

Muramasa's graphics look truly epic for a Wii game, so I'll probably check that out. I've heard great things about No More Heroes 2, but I'm not sure if I'll need to play the first game first to understand what is going on in the story?

Zack & Wiki seems a little kiddy in terms of graphic style and context, but I said the same thing about The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, which I'm currently playing atm, and I have to say its one of the most challenging Zelda games I've played; I'm a huge Zelda fan, so thats saying a lot.

@Son_Gara NMH2 is much better than the original. You're a smart guy, I think you'll be okay skipping the first one.

Zack & Wiki is kind of annoying sometimes for the exact reasons you mentioned, but it's a solid, A+ adventure game if you can get past the sugary veneer.

Totally forgot Super Smash Bros. Brawl!

I was a hardcore Nintendo fanboy growing up. My SNES was arguably my most prized posession until about the time I was 14. However, by this point, they've almost completely lost me. The problem with the Gamecube and the Wii is not that there aren't any good games for them - not at all - its just that there's so few good games for them. I mean, honestly, take a look at your list there, Matt, and compare it to a list for the PS3 or 360. Frankly, it was even worse last gen.

@Mr_Domino I think the answer is Nintendo is simply not as good at making games any more. It hurts me deeply that I did not include a Zelda on that list.

You might also factor in a little jadedness?
