BlogThe Darkness II has been rated MA15+ (legally restricted for sale/hire to people over the age of 15) twice by the Classification Board of Australia, after voluntary re-submission to include a newer version containing a sex scene. Coming with the advice of "strong horror violence, blood and gore, sex scenes and coarse language", the game was not refused classification despite very strong violence. Read on
BlogKonami has announced that the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection will be available in the United States on November 8. Great if you live there. If you're in Europe - too bad. You have to wait until sometime next year, in 2012. Do we really still live in an era that requires months of extra waiting time for PAL releases because companies were too slack to get their European language localisation sorted earlier? Really? I call bullshit frankly, and I wish companies would move forward and localise things on time. It's not like Konami Europe didn't know the title was coming - what's the deal here? Final Fantasy XIII had no problem with this, neither did Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. Even God of War III was only out a couple of days later in Europe than its United States release. On August 4th thru the 7th, QuakeCon 2011 kicked off with its usual flare. While there wasn't as many booths as there were in previous years, there was still a lot to see and do. Bethesda once took over hosting duties and things quickly got under way. I was there for the event and the following is what I saw and experience.

BlogNatsume has announced both Harvest Moon: Tale of Two Towns and Gabrielle's Ghostly Groove are both being delayed until October in the United States. While there's perhaps a less sinister reason for Gabrielle's Ghostly Groove (Halloween theme in October makes sense) both are being delayed due to poor early sales of the Nintendo 3DS. Read on

BlogSuper Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island is a true masterpiece. Everything comes together so nicely -- style, music, gameplay, level design -- to make it one of the very best platform games in the midst of a golden age of platformers. That the GBA re-release would be included in the "ambassador" package of 20 games given to current 3DS owners who payed $80 too much for their systems gave at least some small level of solace.
But will Yoshi's Island be included? According to the initial corporate news brief1:
These include games like Yoshi's Island™: Super Mario™ Advance 3, Mario Kart™: Super Circuit, Metroid™ Fusion, WarioWare™, Inc.: Mega Microgame$ and Mario vs. Donkey Kong™.
But after I contacted Nintendo customer support about some more details, I was given a slightly different li… Read on

This dude goes to the same college that I do. He is a double major in mathematics and electrical engineering, and not only is he a raging genius that effortlessly goes above & beyond at everything that he does, but his piano fingers make you wonder about the kind of sensations his girlfriends must have experienced.

BlogAustralia, the land of censorship. Or is it? For me, this is a part of normal life, with every form of conceivable media being rated by one board or another. Other countries (the United States specifically) seem to look down on our nation like we're run by some form of liberty destroying robots. Yet here we are at the crossroads; art galleries are now possibly going to have classification law setup.
BlogSony have officially unveiled the PlayStation Vita (previously known as the NGP). SCE's president Kazuo Hirai officially announced the device at E3 2011. Apparently vita means "life" in Latin. I personally associate 'vita' with either Vitalin from Commander Keen Episode V: The Armageddon Machine or Arnott's wholegrain crackers. The device will retail for US$249 or US$299 for the Wi-Fi and 3G models respectively. The device is currently slated for a late 2011 release.
Of course, the most exciting thing about the device is the potential for Zone of the Enders and Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner to be released on the device in HD glory. Read on
Any great video game has a groove to it, a kinesthetic dance of feedback and response that can easily be thought of as a kind of music.
Can you think of any games that succeeded or failed to establish a smooth "rhythm of play"?
Did that destroy all your cherished Final Fantasy VI memories?

I remember when this promo video for Donkey Kong Country came in the mail. It was probably the most exciting thing that ever happened to me up to that point in time. I guess when you're 12 your priorities are a little different.

BlogThe successor to Wii is reportedly coming real soon, and, like a bell to Pavlov's Dog, the fanboys are drooling.
I have to admit that I'm salivating (at least a bit) at the prospect of real HD, the complete abrogation of the friend code system, and whatever neat new gizmo/thingamajig/widget/gimmick Nintendo might have up its sleeve.
What are you hoping for, expecting, or demanding out of Wii II?
heartRecently, I purchased Tenchu: Shadow Assassins, from a local used game store. The game, which came for the Wii and PSP, came out back in 2009 and has seem to have kinda flown under the radar since its release. Despite the many flaws with this game, I have still enjoyed it immensely. This will be my first attempt at a very in-depth review for a game, but I will also throw in my own impressions and memories about the game as well. As horrible as this game is I can't help but love it.

BlogThe federal and state Attorneys-General met in Canberra and on the agenda was an R18+ rating to be introduced for video games. They failed to come to a decision however have not rejected the idea just yet.
Federal Home Affairs Minister Brendan O'Connor said:
Gamers have grown up. Games have grown up. We need to make sure we have a classification scheme that's grown up as well.1Read on
BlogThe more I think about it, the more it bothers. That is, the more people say "graphics don't matter" the more I think they're full of it. Actually, the more I think about it, I find the graphics are incredibly important to me. But maybe I'm being too loose with my definitions. Because whenever I think, "graphics," I automatically lump in art direction. Talking about how good the graphics are is pointless if what is being animated is boring to begin with.
